In order to actually test this WMS implementation, we can make use of a service offered by CubeWerx. If you enter the prefix of your WMS implemetation in there and hit one of the "Go" button on the page, it will query your WMS for its capabilities, fill in the user-interface elements on the page, and let you exercise your WMS.

The advent of MapPoint .NET poses an obvious threat to the large GIS software vendors. They have reacted in different ways. ESRI’s recent launch of ArcWeb Services suggests a direct challenge as its literature extols similar benefits; no need to host data or develop functions yourself, with commensurate savings in time, money and resources. A battle for market share, at least in the US, has begun. MapInfo has upgraded its Internet software to work with the .NET platform, thus allowing its partners to develop their own web service offerings.
The Open GIS Consortium (OGC) has adopted a broader approach by defining standard interfaces. These create a spatial infrastructure, or in their words, “geo-enable” the Web. Their aim make separate geographical data sources and systems interoperable across the Internet carries an enormous breadth of vision. For example, OGC’s latest Web Services Testbed initiative made use of live sensors, live tasking of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), and integrated data and services from servers around the world.
Concern with homeland security in the US underpins much of this work, but it is equally applicable to many public and private sector activities. The principal benefit is that, as with commercial services, proprietary applications and different operating systems can co-exist.
