Metadata Search
Caro-COOPS collected metadata is published as FGDC (Federal Geographic Data Commision) compliant records which are harvested by the FGDC and other organizations into their metadata search catalogs.
To perform a FGDC metadata search, start with the following clearinghouse gateway link containing some recommended interfaces for searching the FGDC registered servers.
http://clearinghouse.csc.noaa.gov/NOAA_CSCgateway.html
Note that
if you are having problems with the above clearinghouse gateway link, then you can try from one of several other gateways such as
http://edcw2ks15.cr.usgs.gov/fgdc/EDCgateway.html
Several clearinghouse gateways are listed at
http://clearinghouse3.fgdc.gov/
The first interface allows you to narrow the list of selected servers to be searched by the category of data (Biologic, Ocean, etc) which is to be searched.
http://edcw2ks15.cr.usgs.gov/servlet/FGDCWizard
The second interface allows the user to specify search terms such as the geographic area, time, and keywords including use of a world map applet for geographic coordinate entry.
http://edcw2ks15.cr.usgs.gov/servlet/FGDCServlet?srp=2
The third interface is the same as the second except without the world map applet for geographic coordinate entry.
http://edcw2ks15.cr.usgs.gov/servlet/FGDCServlet
The fourth interface displays the server status (online or offline) for the entire collection of FGDC servers.
http://registry.gsdi.org/serverstatus
For a list of possible search keywords, see the GCMD keyword list.
http://gcmd.nasa.gov/Resources/valids/keyword_list.html
The servers which are of interest for metadata entered using either the Cast-Net or Meta-Door tools are listed as:
Coastal Environmental Long-Term Data, Baruch Institute, Univ of South Carolina
Meta-Door - Coastal Offshore Observing Data
Southern Association of Marine Laboratories Cast-net Atlantic Coast Data Center, Baruch Institute
The general search process is to specify your search based on category and/or keyword, geographic location, time span and server(s) of interest. The initial search runs against one or many search servers returning a list of the number of matches for the search parameters. Clicking on the returned record links displays the FGDC record.
