Instrumentation

Caro-COOPS will begin its initial deployment of moorings in early 2003. The array will be distributed at 9 sites, ranging from onshore to ~70 kilometers offshore (200 meters depth), as well as 3 in Charleston Harbor. Types of instrumentation and approximate locations include the following:

• Nine offshore moorings instrumented for surface wave field, current speed and direction at multiple levels, temperature, salinity, pressure, transmission, and fluorescence/chlorophyll
• Four shore-based water level/meteorological stations
• One water level station
• Some stations will be instrumented for fluorescence and water quality measurements

Additional information incorporated into the analyses will include satellite color, sea surface temperature, and salinity, and sampling data obtained from ship transects (such as color, nutrients, suspended solids).
