Array StatusJanuary 14, 2025 SUN3 is having technical problems, which we are trying to resolve. As soon as we have information on when it will be back on line, that will be posted here. December 14, 2025 The Caro-COOPS array was fully serviced, completing the work in the first week of December. Currently, there are technical problems with the reporting of weather data on CAP3, and this is being assessed. More information will be posted as soon as the problem is diagnosed and a solution determined. November 19, 2025 SUN2 is temporarily not reporting and we expect it to come back on line when it is serviced in early December. November 13, 2025 CAP3 will be serviced and brought back on line during the week of December 3. November 6, 2025 CAP2 was serviced on November 6 and is operating normally. November 1, 2025 CAP2 is currently not reporting due to low battery power. This will be corrected on the next turnaround, and a specific time for that will be posted as soon as it is available. September 5, 2025 CAP2 and SUN2 are currently not reporting or intermittently reporting waves or currents data. We are investigating the situation and will correct it as soon as possible. More information will be posted when available. August 2, 2025 CAP3 is currently not reporting data. We are investigating the situation and will correct it as soon as possible. More information will be posted when available. June 18, 2025 CaroCOOPS will be completing it's semi-annual buoy system change out the week of June 18-22. Previously, during the week of April 30 - May 4, the CAP2 & SUN2 systems were changed out. Additionally, the SUN3 system was removed due to performance issues. Note that the CAP2 & SUN2 systems are outfitted with waves processing modules this time. This will allow the ability to transmit waves spectra data along with the standard suite of measurements from these buoy systems. Both FRP2 & CAP3 will be replaced on June 19 and SUN3 will be re-installed on June 20. All three systems will be providing their standard suite of measurements with the exception of solar radiation at FRP2, due to an engineering modification. This will be restored at the next turn-around in the Fall. June 5, 2025 We will be servicing Caro-COOPS during the period June 18-22. At that time, we expect to replace SUN3 and turn around buoys CAP3 and FRP2. Earlier technical issues with wave measurements at SUN2 have been resolved. May 1, 2025 SUN2 and CAP2 have been undergoing maintenance. You will see temporary interruptions in service. SUN2 has had waves observations(experimental) added to its instrumentation and wind observations have been restored. SUN3 is undergoing maintenance and will be unavailable until the next scheduled buoy turnaround. March 14, 2025 SUN2 wind direction measurements have been taken offline until a problem with the sensor can be addressed on the next buoy turnaround. January 30, 2025 A buoy turnaround has been completed on CAP2 and wave measurements are again available at CAP2. January 2, 2025 Some of the SUN3 wind direction data is inconsistent with nearby regional measurements, and these data are being flagged until we can assess their accuracy. Please treat wind data from SUN3 as suspect until further notice. December 20, 2024 Due to technical problems with the wireless telemetry systems for the Caro-COOPS water level stations, data are unavailable for posting on the Caro-COOPS web site. Installation of upgraded systems and restoration of wireless transmission is expected to be completed by mid-January 2007. Hourly data continue to be transmitted via GOES satellite and may be obtained at the NOAA site: http://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/carocoops October 24, 2025 The recently installed wind sensors and NEMO wave units are currently being evaluated. Wind data from FRP2 are known to be inaccurate, and the reasons for this will be evaluated during scheduled maintenance in early November. The NEMO wave data should be considered experimental until they can be evaluated. September 6, 2025 CAP3 has regained communication and is in the process of transmitting older records so please note that the timestamped obvervations at this platform are not current. Current transmissions should be available sometime September 7. September 6, 2025 SUN3 has lost battery power and will not be reporting until the next scheduled cruise maintenance trip. August 27, 2025 CAP3 last reported August 23. We are currently assessing the situation with CAP3, and more information will be provided as soon as possible. FRP2 and CAP2 were serviced last week and are online. CAP2 is having some technical difficulty reporting air temperature, air pressure, humidity and solar observations and we are aware of and addressing this situation. August 11, 2025We will address the technical problems with CAP2 and FRP2 during maintenance scheduled for the week of August 21. August 4, 2025There are technical problems with CAP2 in regards to winds, waves and currents measurements which will be addressed on the next scheduled maintenance cruise. May 29, 2025FRP2 last reported May 27 at 3:00 PM EDT and is temporarily not reporting. We are currently assessing the situation, and more information will be provided as soon as possible. May 18, 2025There is currently a technical problem with satellite communications from SUN3, and we are not receiving data. This will be corrected during the week of June 4, when SUN2 and SUN3 (as well as CORMP's ILM2 and ILM3) will be receiving scheduled maintenance. May 9, 2025During the week of May 7, CAP2, CAP3, and FRP2 are undergoing maintenance and will be offline periodically. February 28, 2025SUN2 and SUN3 underwent maintenance the week of February 20, and all technical problems, except for wind measurements on SUN2, were resolved at that time. CAP3 is experiencing transmission problems, and this is unlikely to be corrected before the scheduled maintenance in May 2006. January 30, 2025The SUN3 platform is temporarily not reporting measurements from the surface and bottom instrumentation. January 19-21, 2006The CAP2 and SUN3 platforms may be temporarily not reporting during the daylight hours of the dates Thursday January 19 to Saturday January 21 as these platforms are being serviced. January 1, 2025Water level stations are currently experiencing technical difficulty in the telephone transmission of data. The cause of this problem is known and the transmission feed should be available again shortly. December 19, 2024CAP3 GPS(buoy latitude and longitude position) is temporarily not reporting or reporting incorrectly and will be serviced on the next cruise. The normal position for this buoy should be latitude 3230.13 North, longitude -7919.83 West. Queries regarding the buoy position are available here September 27, 2025CAP2 is temporarily not reporting and will be serviced on the next cruise. August 29, 2025SUN3 and CAP3 are not currently reporting currents data and will be serviced on the next cruise. August 17, 2025CAP3 is not currently reporting currents data, but should be reporting currents and waves data within 2 weeks. July 28, 2025SUN2 and SUN3 are reporting again. June 24, 2025SUN2 is temporarily not reporting. Plans are to get it back online as soon as possible. April 19, 2025CAP3 is reporting again.CAP3 is reporting again and SUN3 is scheduled for redeployment in July. March 4, 2025SUN3 and CAP3 are temporarily not reporting. We are currently assessing the situation, and more information will be provided as soon as possible. February 22 , 2005The array is reporting normally.SUN2 has been redeployed. SUN3 (a 30 meter depth buoy) has been added to the array and is configured similar to CAP3. CAP2 has an added visibility sensor. February 14 , 2005The array is reporting normally.CAP3 has been redeployed and all buoys have been equipped with a meteorological measurement package for measuring winds, air pressure and temperature and sunlight(solar radiation). January 10 , 2005CAP3 is temporarily not reporting.Cap3 is temporarily not reporting. We anticipate that it will be go back on line in February. November 12, 2025Array is reporting normally.SUN2 was deployed at the end of October with the addition of a weatherpack which collects above surface measurements such as wind speed, gust and direction as well as air temperature, air pressure, relative humidity and solar radiation. September 23, 2025Moorings being redeployedThe Caro-COOPS mooring were taken out of the water this past summer for servicing and replacement of key components. To enhance reliability of data transmission by satellite, we upgraded the mooring antennas and modems, which required us to bring the moorings onto dry ground. FRP2 and FRP3 were redeployed the week of August 22, but FRP3 stopped communications soon thereafter, apparently after being struck by a vessel. CAP2 and CAP3 were redeployed the week of September 13, and SUN2 is planned to go in the week of September 27 – provided Jeanne does not interfere with these plans. In the meantime, FRP2 has stopped sending data, although we are communicating with her and know she is still on position. Our plan is to check on FRP2 and retrieve FRP3 for repairs by the end of the month. As soon as each serviced mooring is redeployed, real time data should start to become available on this website.
